Is Muse Free? Tokens, Plans and How Far 100 Million Goes
Yes, Muse is free to start, with a weekly allowance and optional paid plans. Everything you do in Muse uses tokens, from a quick question to a long video project, so knowing how the allowance works helps you avoid running out halfway through something important. Here’s what we know as of October 2026.
What a token is
A token is a small unit of work for the AI. Reading your message, thinking through a task, writing a reply, browsing a page, and creating images or video all use tokens. Bigger jobs use more. A one-line answer might use a few thousand tokens, while an afternoon of research or a batch of video clips can use millions.
The free allowance
Every Muse account comes with a free allowance that refreshes weekly. Meta hasn’t officially published the exact amount, but reports put it at around 100 million tokens per week. The reset day appears to be tied to when you signed up, so it may differ from your friends’. When you run out, you wait for the next refresh or upgrade.
How far 100 million tokens actually go
Meta doesn’t say what one token buys, so these figures come from reviewers and users:
| What they did | Share of a week’s free allowance |
|---|---|
| A few drawings, songs, small games and animated web pages | About 6% |
| The same, plus a large interactive project | About 11% |
| Ordinary everyday use | About 35% per week |
| A scheduled job checking something every few hours | About 31% within part of a week |
| Asking Muse to operate a computer for two hours | Up to 69% of a trial allowance |
The pattern is clear: occasional tasks are cheap, while anything that runs for a long time or repeats in the background is expensive.
Paid plans
At the time of writing, two paid plans are reported. Neither requires a yearly commitment, and both are limited to users aged 18 and over.
| Plan | Price | Weekly tokens (reported) |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | About 100 million (not officially confirmed) |
| Power | $20 per month | 500 million |
| Maximum | $100 per month | 3 billion |
Prices and allowances may change, so confirm them in the app before you subscribe.
What the invite bonus is worth
Redeeming an invite code within 48 hours of signing up gives you 1 billion tokens. Based on the reported free allowance, that’s roughly ten weeks of free usage on top of your regular refresh. Sharing your own code earns another billion per person who redeems it. Grab a code from our invite list if you haven’t yet.
Do unused tokens roll over?
Your weekly plan allowance doesn’t carry over. Whatever you don’t use in a week is gone when the next week begins. Reports suggest bonus tokens from invites behave differently and stay in your account across weekly resets, which makes them ideal for big one-off projects.
What uses the most tokens
- Video. Generating clips is the heaviest thing most people do. Plan your shots before you generate so you aren’t paying for clips you’ll throw away.
- Scheduled jobs. A task that runs every few hours adds up quickly. Review your scheduled jobs regularly and remove ones you no longer need.
- Long research and browsing. Asking Muse to read many web pages or compare lots of options uses far more than a simple question.
- Regenerating instead of editing. Asking for a brand-new image each time uses more than asking Muse to adjust the one you already have.
Five ways to make tokens last
- Be specific the first time. A detailed prompt gets a usable result sooner than several vague attempts. Our prompt templates help.
- Edit, don’t regenerate. Ask for “the same image, but at sunset” rather than starting over.
- Batch similar work. Give Muse a whole list of prompts in one document instead of sending them one at a time.
- Test small first. Generate one clip or image to check the look before running a full batch.
- Watch your scheduled jobs. Turn off anything recurring that you don’t actively use.
